What is Bonding?
Bonding is a tooth-colored plastic resin that can be used to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or misshapen.
How is bonding applied?
The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single appointment and can significantly improve the appearance of a tooth. The tooth is prepared for the procedure by lightly etching the surface and applying a bonding liquid. A plastic resin is applied and sculpted into the desired shape by the dentist. Once set, the resin is shaped, smoothed and polished to a natural appearance
Bonding is a less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers. However, since the plastic resin is not as strong as porcelain, it can stain and is easier to break. Bonding typically lasts three to five years before need for repair.
